Juice boxes and determination

Apparently, she now does juice boxes. Out of no where, never having used a straw, she picked up Fynn’s juice box and went to town.

Such a big girl. I think her motto is the jingle “anything you can do I can do better…” We had to teach Fynn how to use a straw (as I’ve heard others had to do as well with their kids… he was not some sort of inept straw user or anything…) but not Paige. Like so many other things, she just gets it. Or rather, tries until she gets it. On her own, of course. She slides down the tallest slides by herself these days, crosses rope bridges – on her hands and knees if she has to, has more of whatever snack or dinner Fynn is eating, just because he has it. And she has to do it, all. by. herself.

Determined and fiercely aware that she can do anything she puts her mind to. I didn’t realize how early that could start… both of my kids are strong willed, but Paige blows Fynn right out of the water in terms of self-sufficiency. Is it the girl thing? I’m not sure. Whatever it is, it’s giving her so much personality and character. I’m convinced she’ll be using the potty like Fynn in a matter of months, as she’s already frustrated she can’t right now. She tries to get up there, but there are some things I’m just not willing to let go yet. She is only 15 months. 15 months going on 17 years. She blows us away.

  1. Wow. That is impressive!
I’ve heard girls catch on to things earlier and easier than boys. My 3 and a half year old shows little skill or desire to dress himself. It must be done by me. It’s his decree. Whatever. I keep threatening to put him naked in a room with nothing but a change of clothes and he’ll have to figure it out himself. You’d think I’d just butchered Santa AND the easter bunny right in front of him, the way he carries on!
    You got a keeper. =)

  2. Oh those photos! She definetely has spunk and determination!
I’ve heard that girls often reach those independant milestones a bit earlier than boys, and second children do as well…add to that Paige’s can-do-it personality and there you go!

  3. Darling pictures… kids are funny that way– are going to do things as fast or slow as they want… but they always get it in the end čÖé

  5. Corinne's Mom

the tilt of the head, sparkle in the eyes, the smile, the dare, the beauty, and yes the determination…she is her mother’s child!

  6. My 3 year old daughter is so independant, to old to hold my hand on the way to pre-school is the new thing!!! but saying that my 14month old boy has to do everything she does, which includes sitting on the potty after his sister to wanting to go to pre-school with her!! he has also sussed the straw.

  7. So completely adorable!
You know, it might also be a 2nd child thing. Dani’s the same way. Which can be a bit of a lesson in patience for me when she INSISTS on putting on her own socks, shoes, coat, etc. She can do it. It just takes her five years. čÖé
